D1986, a road through a salt field

D1986 is a very scenic road located in Walvis Bay, a city on the coast of Namibia.

Situated at the Atlantic coast, the road runs through the salt lakes. The 3,500 hectare salt field is one of the largest solar evaporation facilities in Africa, processing 24 million tons of sea water each year to produce more than 700,000 tons of high quality salt.

The road is 21.6km (13.42 miles) long. It was recently asphalted and runs east-west from Walvis Bay city, the second largest city in Namibia to Paaltjies Parking Area.
