Driving the sandy road to Remhoogte Pass

Remhoogte Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.556m (5,104ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary of Hardap and Khomas regions of Namibia. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.

Is Remhoogte Pass unpaved?

Set high on the central part of the country, the road to the summit is totally unpaved and sandy. It’s called D1261. The road is not recommended for people who are a little apprehensive about heights. A 4x4 vehicle is preferred: it is not the best idea to tackle this route with a sedan or light two-wheel drive vehicle.

How long is Remhoogte Pass?

The pass is 47.6 km (29.57 miles) long running from Abbabis to Naoseros. It’s a steep drive hitting a 9% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
