Tizi n’Tirecht is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.677m (12,063ft) above sea level, located in Drâa-Tafilalet region of Morocco. It’s one of the highest roads of Africa.

The road to the summit was built in 2015 to allow the construction of some mountain resort at the top of Jbel Ayachi. 

Is the road to Tizi n’Tirecht unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It is currently impassable even by 4x4 vehicles. It might be possible with a dirt bike only. There are mudslides and rock slides that block the road about a third of the way up. The final part of the road is impassable without an excavator. Furthermore, it’s almost impossible to find in the first point. It can only be found by following the line on satellite images. 

Is the road to Tizi n’Tirecht open in winter?

Set high in the Eastern High Atlas, the peak remains snow-covered and cold late into the year. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice. Snow remains on most of the peaks until late May or early June, and in a few sheltered spots may survive the entire summer.
