How to drive the unpaved road to Tizi n’Tamazrt?

Tizi n’Tamazrt is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.895m (9,498ft) above sea level, located in Drâa-Tafilalet region of central Morocco. It’s one of the highest roads in the country.

Is the road to Tizi n’Tamazrt unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s a very primitive road, for 4x4 vehicles only. It’s narrow, steep, with many turns and dangerous drops. Not recommended for newbies. The ride is pretty remote, so you need to be prepared. In case of a breakdown, there is very little in the way of passing traffic or inhabitants around, and no cell phone service in parts.

Starting on the P7102 road, near Ait Kharrou, the road to the summit is 24.6 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1339 m and the average gradient is 5.44%. 

Is the road to Tizi n’Tamazrt open in winter?

Set high in the high plains between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain ranges, the road tops out at 2.918m (9,573ft) above sea level shortly before the pass. It’s usually impassable in winters.
