All About the Road to Oukaimeden ski resort

Oukaïmeden is a ski resort located in Al Haouz Province of the Marrakesh-Tensift-El Haouz region of Morocco. At an elevation of 2.622m (8,602ft) above the sea level, it’s said to be Africa's highest ski resort. It's one of the highest roads of Morocco.

Is the road to Oukaïmeden ski resort paved?

Set high in the High Atlas Mountain, the road to the resort is totally paved. It’s called P2030. It’s a dramatic and nicely paved road that twists and turns its way through the valley from which the resort takes its name. The resort, in the shadow of the Toubkal Heights, is one of only two fully-functional, constant ski resorts in the country. Long before snow bunnies arrived, there was a high-altitude civilization in Oukaïmeden. A sign points toward petroglyphs on the right side of road as you enter town. It is one of the few places in Morocco where skiing is possible, and it also boasts the highest ski lift in Africa (reaching 10,825 feet).

How long is the road to Oukaïmeden ski resort?

Starting at Tamezindert, on the P2017 road, the road is 30.1km (18.70 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.637 meters. The average gradient is 5.43%. It hits an 8% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
