A drive through the scenic Todgha Gorge

Todgha Gorge is a limestone river canyon located in Tinghir Province, in the Drâa-Tafilalet Region of Morocco.

Todgha Gorge

The road through the gorges is called R703. It runs south-north from R317 Road (near Agoudal), towards N10 Road (near Tinghir). It was fully paved in 2014. The gorge is about 20 km long. Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions. Lots of tourist buses.

The gorges are very scenic. In places, this gorge measures just 33 meters across, but has cliffs over of 100 meters high on each side of the river. The last 600 metres of the Todgha gorge are the most spectacular. It is a well-maintained asphalt road but requires a careful driving (water flows over the road) in the rain. During the dry season, the canyon floor is mostly dry; at most there will be a small stream of water. During the rainy season, however, the Todra can expand massively, covering the canyon floor in a strong torrent.

Located in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco, this is a remarkable road trip. Remember to bring your camera. It is one of Moroccos's most famous TV, commercials and film locations. The road offers beautiful landscapes as well as a beautiful view of the majestic palm grove. This place has been used for the filming of many movies with one of the most famous movie being the “Mummy”. There are a lot of vendors selling their wares alongside the mountain. Make sure you leave enough time to make plenty of stops along the way.
