The steep road to Monte Verde
Monte Verde is a mountain peak at an elevation of 642m (2,106ft) above the sea level located in the northern part of the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde.
The road to the summit is paved (cobblestone), but in poor conditions, and pretty narrow. It’s 6.1 km long and really steep. The elevation gain is 437m and the average gradient is 7,16%, with sections up to 12%.
Located within the Monte Verde Natural Park, the drive is definitely worth it. A drive not to be missed! There are many excellent photo opportunities. Don't forget your camera with lots of film/memory, fully charged batteries and an empty memory card! The view at the top of Monte Verde is spectacular featuring views of the entire island including Baía das Gatas and the city of Mindelo as well as the islands Santa Luzia to the east and Santo Antão to the northwest.
