About us
dangerousroads.org is a free-access, free-content Internet encyclopedia. The website is ranked among the Internet's largest and most popular websites about roads and mountain passes.
On 2011, it started almost entirely open—anyone could create articles, and any article could be edited by any reader. Modifications to all articles were published immediately. As a result, any article could contain inaccuracies such as errors and nonsensical or irrelevant text.
Over time dangerousroads.org gradually have restricted modifications. Only authorised users may create or modify an article. They’re a network of collaborators who are spread all over the world. In certain cases, editors are allowed to submit modifications, but review is required for some editors, depending on certain conditions. Although changes are not systematically reviewed, the software provides certain tools allowing the network of contributors to review changes made by others. An article is not considered to be owned by its creator or any other editor and is not vetted by any recognized authority.
As a consequence of the open structure, dangerousroads.org "makes no guarantee of validity" of its content, since no one is ultimately responsible for any claims appearing in it. Because contributors usually rewrite small portions of an entry rather than making full-length revisions, high- and low-quality content may be intermingled within an entry.
