What are the most spectacular roads in Egypt?

Located in the northeastern part of Africa and the Sinai Peninsula in the Middle East, Egypt is 1,002,450 km2 (387,050 sq mi). It’s the 29th largest country in the world. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the east, the country is mainly desert. It borders Libya, Israel and Sudan.

The capital is Cairo, which is also the largest city in the country; the official language is Arabic and Islam is the predominant religion. It hosts a rich history dating back thousands of years, with famous ancient monuments such as the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Sphinx. The country hosts the ancient road to Giza. At over 4,600 years old, it’s said to the world’s oldest known paved road leading to the iconic Pyramids.

The country hosts many spectacular roads, including the road from Hurghada to Luxor,   a challenging drive where numerous head-on collisions and fatal accidents have occurred, making it a highly dangerous route. The exciting Border Road #10 is a paved road travelling parallel to the border fence between Israel and Egypt, and the International Coastal Road  offers stunning views along the Mediterranean Sea coast of the country.

The road from Hurghada to Luxor is not a safe drive. The road linking the ancient city of Luxor in southern Egypt to Hurghada, the regional hub for several scuba diving resorts on the Red Sea, is perilous and poses a severe risk to travelers. Numerous head-on collisions and fatal accidents have occurred, making it a highly dangerous route.

The Giza Road, also known as the "Processional Way," is indeed considered one of the oldest known paved roads in the world. Located on the west bank of the Nile, southwest of central Cairo, at over 4,600 years old, it was used to transport the enormous blocks of basalt for building from the quarries to a lake adjoining the Nile.

Border Road #10 is an asphalted highway which travels parallel to the border fence between Israel and Egypt.

International Coastal Road is a very scenic drive with stunning views along the Mediterranean Sea coast of Egypt.
