The pass is located on the boundary between the Tolima and Quindío departments, high in the Cordillera Central or central range of the Andes mountains.

The road to the summit is fully paved. It’s called Ruta Nacional 40 and runs from Armenia to Ibagué. Due to its brutality, in September 2020, the most challenging part of the road was bypassed by the 8,652-meter (28,386 ft) long Túnel de la Línea - Portal Galicia.

This is a great climb with amazing scenery but also a lot of traffic.
