Chulumani Road (or South Yungas Road) is a road that connects La Paz to Chulumani, 64 kilometres (40 mi) east of La Paz, and is considered to be dangerous as the North Yungas Road.
The road to the Sud Yungas branches east just beyond Unduavi . Though less nerve-wracking than the road to Coroico, this is nevertheless a scenically rewarding trip following the steep-sided valley of the Río Unduavi. Along the way is the beautiful Velo de la Novia (Bridal Veil), waterfall (views from the left side of the bus).

The first settlement after Unduavi, Chaco, which is 1 km before the end of La Reconquistada Trail and home to Hotel El Castillo. Here are several hiking trails to waterfalls and a suspension bridge over the river. A few km further on is Florida, where a dirt road turns off to the right to the attractive colonial village of Yanacachi . The main road continues to Puente Villa and then 25 km further to Chulumani.

It’s not sure why the road to Coroico in the North Yungas, tops the Chulumani road to claim the title, “The Most Dangerous Road in the World.” Coroico claims more deaths, so perhaps that is the measurement used, but the road to Chulumani is much more nerve-wracking.
The Chulumani road still uses big busses, whereas the famous old Coroico road is mostly traversed by tourists on bikes. (A new road to Coroico runs minivans.)

The Chulumani busses have under-storage, as opposed to the older method of tying bags on top. Passengers climb three deep steps up to their seats. These elevated views embrace cliff edges, and feeling the rounding curves at high speeds can be downright scary.
