Big Mountain Pass

Tucked away in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, the curvy road to the summit is totally paved. It’s called Utah State Route 65 and was built in 1931. The road is totally closed in winters. The summit hosts a parking lot. The pass is on the original route of the Mormon pioneers who crossed it in 1847 on their way to the Salt Lake Valley.

The road is 43.45 km (27.0 miles) long, and runs south-northeast from Lincoln Highway (I-80) near the Mountain Dell Dam to Henefer, a town in Summit County, on the I-84 road. The drive is very scenic and near the summit there are a few places to pull out and take it all in where you can get some really great overlooking shots.
