North Pass

Tucked away in the Cochetopa Hills, and running over the Continental Divide, the road to the summit is totally paved. It’s called State Highway 114 (SH 114). It’s a well-maintained road that is open to all vehicles. The section over the pass was paved by 1964. It’s the highest point on the road. The pass is also known as North Cochetopa Pass.

The pass road is 98.97km (61.5 miles) long, running from Parlin (in Gunnison County) on US-50 to Saguache (the county seat of Saguache County) on US Highway 285. This road has pretty scenery through very underpopulated land. Access to the pass is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure due to dangerous weather conditions.
