La Rumorosa is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1.232m (4,042ft) above sea level, located in Baja California, Mexico.
Set high in the Sierra de Juárez Mountains, the road to the summit is totally paved with two-lane roads. It’s called Federal Highway 2D. The road includes countless turns, and the pass is the highest point on the road.
Its name comes from the whispering winds that blow through the Sierra.
This dramatic location has been used by filmmakers, perhaps most famously for the final chase scene in the James Bond film Licence to Kill.
The road links Tecate and Mexicali, running parallel to Interstate 8 at Mountain Springs, in the US state of California. It’s a dangerous road due to its topography and abundant curves, full of hairpin turns and roller-coaster dips. It is always advisable to observe a minimum safe distance, not exceed the speed limit, and use engine braking whenever possible. Headlights are advised in adverse conditions. During the summer, temperatures may soar, and the car could overheat.
Located in the northern part of the country, the road through the summit was completed in 1917.
The road is said to be haunted, and the ghosts of the road's victims are said to haunt the drivers of today.
