Billings Canyon is a 12.5 miles trail, at an elevation of 5242 to 6434 feet, and located in the BLM Bangs Canyon Management Area south of Grand Junction, Colorado. The canyon boasts a jeep trail. Billings Canyon and Tabeguache trails all depart along the road from the south end of the parking area. A couple hundred yards down the road the route to Billings Canyon is along the left fork. Most of this hike is along the roads. There isn't much in the way of gravel or loose rocks so it makes for easy walking.

The road works its way across Horse Mesa as it wraps its way around the east side of the mountain towards Billings Canyon. This goes on for about 3.5 miles. The altitude drops steadily.

The road drops into Billings Canyon and at this point the infamous Billings Canyon 4x4 trail begins. At the start of the trail there is another sign the says 'Do Not Enter if you don't have all the correct equipment'.
The road bends back to the west towards Little Park Road. There are several hiking trails that either cross the road or begin off of it. Some of these trails can be taken to get to the Little Park Trailhead and the others are connecting trails that give lots of options for hiking.
