
Rainbow Basin Road is a 4.0 miles loop, which starts in the Fossil Bed Rd, located in San Bernardino County, California, United States.
Rainbow Basin is an Area of Critical Environmental Concern due to landscape features and paleontological resources in the area. Located 8 miles (13 km) north of Barstow, its diverse landscape, multi-colored rock formations and scenic canyons are popular with photographers, hikers and campers keen to experience the area's natural beauty. The fossiliferous Barstow Formation (Miocene) is well exposed there. Rainbow Basin is managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Barstow Field Office.
To reach the Rainbow Basin Road, from downtown Barstow, take Main Street to 1st Street. Take 1st Street, you will cross over an old steel bridge. Turn left on Irwin Road. After a couple miles you will see the sign for Rainbow Basin. Turn left on Fossil Bed Road. Continue a couple more miles and you will see the sign for Owl Canyon Campground and Rainbow Basin Scenic Drive.
