Stocksbridge By-Pass (England)

Stocksbridge By-pass is formerly part of the M67 motorway in England, it was then downgraded to a dual carriage way and today it is just a single carriage way. The road, which was finished being built in 1989, runs around north side of the Stocksbridge and its valley. It has been the location of many hauntings. Over time there have been sightings of children playing late at night under the bridge and a monk who just stands and looks out. One sighting of the monk prompted a police investigation which ultimately provided no explanation. Other people have heard the sounds of children singing in the vicinity when there are none to be seen. Perhaps most frighteningly are the reports of people driving who have suddenly noticed an apparition of the monk sitting beside them in the car!

This is such rubbish, yes there are numerous sitings of ghosts on this by-pass and surrounding areas but it was never part of the M67.
The main road through Stocksbridge carried too much traffic between Sheffield and Manchester so the by-pass was constructed from scratch to "by pass" the town. The new road was built through previously undisturbed ground and believed through the unmarked grave of a monk that had fled a local monastry. The sightings of a monk began during contruction.
Google ghosts of stocksbridge by-pass, you'll find a story of Police Constable Dick Ellis of South Yorkshire Police and as an ex-South Yorkshire Police Officer myself I can tell you, this guy is genuine. The ribbing this guy got from colleagues for telling his story was huge, it wouldn't have been worth the hassle if it was just a made up tale.
Also there are so many corroborating accounts from "normal" people it is arguably THE BEST eyewitness evidenced story ever.
