How long is the road from Hora Sfakion to Anopolis?

The road is totally paved. It’s 11.7km (7.27 miles) long, running east-west from Hóra Sfakíon (also known as Sfakia and Chora Sfakion), a town on the south coast of the island to Anopolis, a small village, built on a small but fertile plateau, at an elevation of 600 m above the sea level, on the southern areas of the White Mountains.

How long does it take to drive from Hora Sfakion to Anopolis?

Plan about 25 minutes to complete the remarkable drive without stops. The zone offers quiet beaches with crystal clear sea water, good food and wine, and its marvelous opportunities to walk along the coast. This is the southernmost part of Europe, still the wildest and most natural part of Crete. The mountainous landscape is of outstanding wild beauty. This winding road climbs the bare mountains, offering extensive views out to Gavdos.

Is the road from Hora Sfakion to Anopolis difficult?

The drive is not easy. With 19 sharp hairpin turns and running through one of the wildest and most scenic regions of Crete, the road is very steep, hitting a 10% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. The road, with never ending hairpins, has breath taking views, with huge precipices and deep gullies. Rock slides can occur anytime and can sometimes block some sections of the road.
