How long is the road to Dzhily-Su?

Tucked away on the northwestern part of the republic, the road to Jily-Su was fully paved in 2014. The winding and dangerous road is 85.4 km (53.06 miles) long, running north-south from Kislovodsk (a spa city in southwestern Russia) to Dzhily-Su. Located at the foot of the mount Elbrus, Dzhily-Su is a resort area untouched by civilization with a large number of thermal springs and waterfalls, known for its rock formations and expansive views.

Is the road to Dzhily-Su in the North Caucasus open?

Set high in the North Caucasus, the road (aka Road to Mount Elbrus) tops out at 2.510m (8,234ft) above the sea level across the Shidzhatmaz plateau. It is usually closed from early/mid December to early May. You should not drive the road in heavy rain and ice.

Is the road to Dzhily-Su remote?

Located within the Prielbrusye National Park, be sure to check your brakes and fuel level before driving. There are no gas stations along the highway. Be careful during overtakes — there are police controls.

How long does it take to drive to Dzhily-Su?

The drive offers stunning views through dizzying heights and incredible panoramas. It’s said to be one of the most beautiful drives of the country. Plan about 3 hours to complete the remarkable drive without stops, although you may want to block out extra time to stop. It is preferable to drive early in the morning to get the best views of Elbrus. Best time to drive is from May to November.
