A challenging unpaved road to Gola Pljesevica

Gola Pljesevica is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.547m (5,075ft) above the sea level, located in the Dinaric Alps, on the border of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The road to the summit is dangerous. It’s a very narrow and steep 4x4 track. The summit is crowned with transmitter towers and radars. Until 2007 the access was not possible because the road and some buildings were under the military control. If you dare to take the risk and travel along this dusty and bumpy route, then make sure to be driven by someone who has experience of the road.

Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime. According to some local rumors, some areas out of the road and near to the ridge are hazardous area due to the possible mine fields. It’s a real challenging road and a true test of your vehicle and your stamina because the road abounds in twists and turns with wheels sometimes hanging above the precipice.
