the world's most spectacular roads

Cerro El Pital is a high mountain pass in Central America, on the border of El Salvador and Honduras, at an elevation of 2,730 m (8,957 ft) above the sea level.

It is one of the most popular tourist draws in El Salvador, with great biodiversity in a wide altitudinal range containing many endangered species of flora and fauna. The cloud forest has some of the rarest plants and animals in the country, includingquetzals and other endangered species. To reach the summit of the pass, starting from San Ignacio, the ascent is 8.95 km long, with a gain of 1.210 meters and an average percentage of 13.5 %.

The surface of the road is gravel and sand, and chains or snow tyres can be required anytime.
