The road to the summit is paved. It’s called Kohat road and links Kohat with Peshawar, in the North-West Frontier Province. The road over the pass is steep and very narrow for large vehicles. British authorities in Peshawar commenced construction of the Kohat Pass road in 1849 and completed it by 1850 despite violent opposition from local tribes. The pass was closed temporarily in 1853 after a quarrel arose among nearby tribes. In 2003, the pass was bypassed by the Kohat Tunnel so the traffic had not to pass over rugged mountains, making it hazardous and time consuming as well.
