Set high in the Himalayas, within the Kali Gandaki Valley, the road is fully unpaved. It’s 93.7 km (58.22 miles) long, running south-north from Baglung (in Baglung District) to Kagbeni (in Mustang District).

When was the road from Baglung to Kagbeni built?

Part of the Tour des Annapurnas, the road was originally constructed by the Nepal Army and underwent improvements in 2010. Now, it’s a little wider and less risky compared to 4-5 years ago.

How challenging is the road from Baglung to Kagbeni?

Running through the Kali Gandaki Gorge or Andha Galchi, which could be the deepest canyon in the world, the perilous road is susceptible to flooding from the Kali Gandaki river. It is prone to landslides and flooding, particularly during the monsoon. Along the way, you’ll encounter some dangerous drop-offs. A high-clearance SUV or a Jeep with 4WD is the most suitable vehicle for the trip. The road ends at 3,000m (9,842ft) above sea level, on the way to Thorong La.
