Crossing Dolon Pass is rather complicated

Dolon Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.030m (9,940ft) above the sea level, located in the Naryn Province of Kyrgyzstan.

Dolon Pass

The road to the summit is mostly paved with some short gravel sections. It’s called A365 (European route E125) and links Bishkek and Torugart. It connects the Issyk Kul and Naryn Provinces. The road is pretty challenging for drivers because the ascent up the pass is steep and the following descent is even steeper. Crossing the pass is rather complicated.

The weather on this zone is harsh and highly unpredictable and it does not take much time for the bright sun shine to change over to moderate to heavy snow fall. It’s the highest pass along Bishkek-Torugart highway. The road is unpaved and very uneven, and can be hazardous after a snow, making it slippery. The road is full of 18 wheelers traveling from China with cargo to Bishkek. At the summit are wonderful views of the valley, the majestic mountain ranges of the Tien Shan glaciers and ice caps. At the pass, not far from the road, there is a meteorological station.
