Tossor Pass is a thrilling (scary) off road experience in Kyrgyzstan

Pereval Tossor is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3,901m (12,798ft) above sea level, located in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan. It’s one of the highest roads in the country.

Where is Tossor Pass?

The pass is situated on the eastern part of the country and connects the southern shore of Issyk Kul lake with Naryn.

Is Pereval Tossor open?

The road is usually passable between June and August due to snow, and sometimes the pass can be blocked by landslides.

Is the road to Pereval Tossor challenging?

Located high in the Terskey Ala-Too mountain range, the road to the summit, also known as Pereval Tosor, Pereval Тоссор, and Pereval Tassor, is completely unpaved and extremely challenging. A good 4x4 vehicle with high clearance is required. It's not advisable to drive this trail alone. Be prepared for the difficulty, or enjoy it if you are seeking an off-road adventure. The last few kilometers to the top are quite steep and rough (heading towards Naryn). Keep in mind that this is a remote area with no mobile connection and no fuel stations.

How long is the road to Pereval Tossor?

The track to reach the summit is an old road and horse path. It’s very steep, with a maximum gradient of 1% through some of the ramps. Starting at Tosor, on the southern shore of Issyk Kul lake, the ascent is 34.7 km (21.56 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 2,295 meters. The average gradient is 6.61%. The scenery is spectacular.
