Mount Hermon Ski Resort

The mountain is the only place with snow skiing in the country. It straddles one of the world's most infamously contested borders. On one side of the mountain is Israel, and on the other side are Syria and Lebanon. Located in the Anti-Lebanon mountain range, the road to the resort is called Road 98. It’s asphalted with some turns. In the winter, Mount Hermon is open for up to about 50 days of skiing and boarding year, attracting about 300,000 visitors, generally between January and March. The road to the summit is paved. It’s called Route 98. Starting from Mas'ade, a village in the northern Golan Heights, the ascent is 13.5km long.

The Mount Hermon ski resort is open only at the peak of winter (usually January–March), when enough snow is accumulated on its ground. As you drive up to it through the Golan Heights, you pass blocked-off mine fields. The mountain is dubbed the Eyes of the Nation for the view it gives deep into Syria. The Israeli Defense Forces maintain an observation post there, patrolled by the specially trained Alpine Unit. The military base is visible from the ski area, and certain sections of the mountain are restricted to IDF use. West of the resort are 3 minor asphalted roads climbing up to some observation and weather stations, at 2.220m (7,283ft) above the sea level.
