Babusar Pass (Pakistan)

Babusar Pass (or Babusar Top), at an elevation of 4173 m. (13,691 ft.) above the sea level is a mountain pass at the north of the 150 km. (93 miles) long Kaghan Valley connecting it via the Thak Nala with Chilas on the Karakoram Highway (KKH). It is the highest point in the Kaghan Valley.

 

Banihal Pass (India)

Banihal Pass is a pass across the Pir Panjal Range at 2,832 metres (9,291 ft) maximum elevation. This mountain range separates the Kashmir valley in the Indian state Jammu and Kashmir from the outer Himalaya and plains to the south.

Guarded & maintained by the Indian Army (because of its proximity to Chinese border), this heavenly place is covered with snow throughout the year and is part of the 83 mile road between the Pangong Lake and Leh, the former capital of the ancient kingdom of Ladakh.

 

Chyirchyk Pass (Kyrgyzstan)

Everest Base Camp (China)

Situated at the base of Pakistan’s 26,660-foot Nanga Parbat, 9th highest mountain in the world and second in Pakistan after K2, Fairy Meadows is a picturesque destination. Getting to Fairy Meadows, however, is not such an attractive experience. Part of the trip involves surviving a 6-mile, hour-long drive on an unstable gravel road hacked out of the barren hills.

 

Fotu La (India)

Fotu La is a mountain pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway in the Himalayas Zaskar Range in India.  Located at an altitude of 13,478 ft or 4,108 m, the Fotu La Pass at the beginning of a descending road that leads past the Lamayuru Monastery down to the Indus River.

The China-Nepal Highway (also known as the Friendship Highway) is a scenic route on the Tibetan Plateau. It includes the westernmost part of China National Highway 318 from Lhasa west to Lhatse then south to Nepal as well as the southernmost part of China National Highway 219 from Lhatse to Gar in far western Tibet.

Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776.24 m (12,389 ft) above the sea level. An active stratovolcano that last erupted in 1707–08, Mount Fuji lies about 100 kilometres (62 mi) south-west of Tokyo, and can be seen from there on a clear day.

The Gülek Pass, at an elevation of 1,050 m (3,445 ft)above the sea level, is a pass through the Taurus Mountains connecting the low plains of Cilicia to the Anatolian Plateau, by way of the narrow gorge of the Gökoluk River. Its highest elevation is about 1000m.

 

Guoliang Tunnel (China)

This road is located in the Taihana Mountains in the Hunan Province of China and before its construction in 1972, access to Guoliana village was restricted to a treacherous path carved into the mountain face. Guoliang is also known as Guoliangcun.  In Chinese, "cun" means "Village", i.e. Guoliangcun is the Village of Guoliang. 

 

Halsema Highway (Philippines)

Halsema Highway is considered one of the most dangerous highways in the world. Everyday, commuters, transporters, tourists, and residents coming from Baguio or Mt. With everything that’s going on in Afghanistan at the moment, you’d imagine that there’s a fair few dangerous roads over there and you’d more than likely be right!  The Kabul-Kandahar Highway part is a 483-kilometer (300-mile) road linking Afghanistan's two largest cities, Kabul and Kandahar.

Highway 1004 starts at the highway 11 intersection in Chiang Mai and runs all the way up to Doi Pui. On the way it passes several viewpoints, waterfalls, mountain temples (Wat Prathat) and a palace. It finishes at the summit of Doi Pui.

Haunted roads

A75 (Scotland)


 

Hundreds of weird sightings and unexplained accidents have been reported in the area over the past fifty years. The 15 mile stretch of the A75 from Annan in Dumfriesshire to Gretna Green is claimed to be the most haunted road in Scotland and the Scottish Office plans to improve it but the local residents believe that it will unleash the already angry spirits.
