the world's most spectacular roads

Ikhupe, (also known as Mkupe) Pass, is a mountain pass at an elevation of 1,469 m (4,820 ft) above the sea level, located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.

The road over the pass is asphalted. It’s called National road N11 and it’s the main road between Ladysmith in the South and Newcastle in the North.

The experience of using this road is very impressive. The road's winding design, providing stunning panoramic views, is very curvy and fun for a leisurely ride. Technically, the modern version of the pass is a well engineered, safe road and only gains 84 meters in altitude, producing an average gradient of 1:18 with a maximum gradient of 1:13.
