Qacha's Nek is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.981m (6,499ft) above the sea level, located on the border of Lesotho and South Africa.
The road over the pass is extremely challenging. The weather on this zone is harsh and highly unpredictable and it does not take much time for the bright sun shine to change over to moderate to heavy snow fall. Go prepared for severe weather, including thunderstorms, electrical storms, rain, mist or snow.
From Lesotho, the road is all paved. It’s rather short and an easy climb. The South African side is a rather rough dirt track. It’s a long, gravel road, high altitude pass leading to the border control point with Lesotho at the town of the same name.
